We had an early start and headed out for breakfast, though as we were heading towards downtown Vancouver we didn't know where...and as our tummies rumbled we settled for a Starbucks. While sitting there, a young girl, no more than 17, came over to us and excused herself and then said 'Madam Can I say that you have the most beautiful daughters' All I could say was Thankyou then she went back to her table and read her magazine. Very bizarre yet a lovely compliment to the girls.
We headed into Vancouver to meet friends we made back in 2009 through my cousin. They have a little girl the same age as Hermione and a new baby boy. We went to their apartment and though they complained it was small, they utilised the space with such efficiency it put most houses to shame. Hermione rekindled her friendship with their daughter and was donning princess outfits within 30mins and Emilia hung around the big girls playing in her own little way. It was nice to see Hermione have girly fun and as she disappeared in her make believe world with her new friend us parents caught up and had a good old general chit chat.
We all took a stroll into Yaletown for lunch when the kids started going dullaly and sat around a table in an Italian Cafe eating an array of different pizzas. It was very tasty. We then walked back to the apartment via a playground so the girls could let off some steam before we headed back in the car.
We took a detour via the owners of our new home to pick up a bed they were letting us borrow for Hermione while we gather our lives together. It's a lovely walnut bed that belonged to her as a little girl. They also gave us the bedroom furniture to go with it and the linens and now Hermione will be a proper little princess! Their kindness has been fantastic as they try to make our adjustment to Canadian life as easy as possible.
We took the bed et al to the house, unloaded, collected the post and headed back to my cousins to do the mammoth task of cleaning up before my cousin and her husband came home from their holiday. The girls also wanted to help so the task maybe took longer than it should have... you cleaned the glass then they'd touch it to see if it was clean! We tucked them up in bed about 7 and we settled down to appreciate the tidiness and looking forward to seeing my cousin after 10 days of being here.
